An art manifesto is a public declaration of the intentions, motives, or views of an artist or artistic movement. Manifestos are a standard feature of the various movements in the modernist avant-garde and are still written today
EXPRESSIONISM - The word "expressionism" comes from the Latin ex-primere, literally meaning "to throw outside"; it can either be used with a small e as a general term, or with a capital E to indicate a precise artistic avant-garde movement. In fact when the term is used to refer to the Modern avant-garde movement, it actually serves as a general heading for a number of various tendencies that were prevalent in Europe in the early twentieth century, especially in Germany, Austria and France.
Van Gogh and Gauguin can be considered as the precursors of the Expressionism: many artists from all over Europe followed their example.
